Emily Simpkins: an inspiring story
"I have been involved in sports now since I was a little girl. Growing up I loved the feeling of participating and played a variety of sports throughout my school years, from hockey, swimming and netball to gymnastics.
Being so active also allowed me to maintain a healthy balanced social life - being part of a team and making friends for life.
Football has always been my passion. After leaving school I continued my journey within football by becoming a full time coach and passing on my knowledge and years of experience to the next generation, while still playing myself alongside the job. My teams included Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City, with highlights including winning the league and reaching the women's Champions League semi-final. I also travelled to different countries to compete.
The experiences football have given me have been priceless and I'm extremely grateful to the sport and coaches who have worked with me and supported me along the way to help me get to where I am today. Now I'm fulfilling a dream by playing professionally in the Women's FAWSL for Doncaster Rover Belles.
I would recommend anyone to get active and involved with sports - for the health benefits , the social aspect, opportunities to meet new people - and maybe even a career!"
